PCCYFS NextGen Leadership Institute: Equipping the Future Leaders in Human Services

A Multi-Part PCCYFS Leadership Seminar featuring Motus9

PCCYFS is again partnering with Motus9, business and leadership coaching & advising experts, to provide members with a series of high-impact leadership development opportunities designed to equip rising leaders with the tools needed to inspire teams, drive impact, and lead with confidence.

After a powerful first year, we are bringing back the NextGen Leadership Institute, a high-impact leadership experience focused on real-world leadership application in the human services landscape. With the core foundation remaining strong, Year Two builds on real-world insights and participant feedback to impact experience and strengthen mission-driven organizations.

High performers in children’s services organizations often find themselves stepping into leadership roles. But success as an individual professional does not necessarily translate to leading high-performing organizations.

PCCYFS’ NextGen Leadership Institute is a dynamic interactive development series designed to help rising leaders gain practical tools to communicate effectively, delegate with purpose, and adapt to any leadership situation.

What to Expect:

  • Transform from an independent high performer to a confident team leader
  • Gain strategies to tackle complex challenges and influence with clarity
  • Build stronger teams through trust, collaboration, and clear communication
  • Master decision-making, delegation, and adaptability in leadership
  • Walk away with actionable tools to drive organizational success

The most effective organizations invest in equipping emerging leaders with the skills needed to be successful leaders. This immersive institute will provide professionals with an elevated approach to leadership, ensuring they leave with the mindset and skills to achieve and exceed their business goals.

Are you or someone on your team interested in leadership development?

Join PCCYFS and Motus9 for an immersive leadership development opportunity designed to equip leaders in the Pennsylvania child serving systems with the skills, mindset and confidence to lead with impact.  Whether you’re an existing leader, emerging leader or looking to elevate your current role, this opportunity cannot be missed!

Leadership is the process of inspiring and motivating others towards shared goals and objectives.  In a field where decision-making matters and every action can change a life, strong, compassionate leadership is important now more than ever.

Who should attend?

Many of our members have expressed interest in sending leaders but are unsure who. Every organization has a unique structure, and titles may vary from C-suite roles, Senior Directors, Vice Presidents, etc. As you’re having similar thoughts, think about leadership v. tenure or management; we mean those who:

  • are looking to gain new perspectives to uncover and address blind spots both within their professional development and your agency
  • can inspire, motivate and guide others
  • are new in leadership positions or need to fine tune their leadership skills
  • are ready to contribute to their roles at a higher level
  • are eager to learn and grow, and need guidance to take the next step
  • are looking to develop from being a manager to being a leader
  • are looking for higher productivity within their departments
  • have potential for future leadership positions/responsibilities

Why sign up?

The PCCYFS Leadership Institute is a refreshing opportunity for organizations to invest in their future leaders. The Institute is impactful to those newer to leadership roles, but also beneficial to those professionals who are looking for new strategies to grow their skills and uncover growth opportunities.

What’s included?

Included in the Leadership Institute are:

  • 2-days of immersive in-person professional development in a group learning environment, and
  • Virtual Bridge Sessions. These sessions provide a unique opportunity for the organization to participate in the transfer of learning process with their attendees to reinforce and uphold their growth trajectory.

Consider sending members of your team to the PCCYFS Leadership Institute to help drive innovation and growth at your organization.

All participants—and their agency leaders—will be invited to an initial large-group VBS focused on reflecting on the Leadership Institute experience and exploring how to integrate key concepts into day-to-day work.

Agencies that send five or more participants will receive two additional, agency-specific VBS sessions tailored to their organization’s goals and context. Participants from organizations with fewer than five attendees will have the opportunity to join two additional large-group VBS sessions, providing continued opportunities to reinforce and apply learning.

Participants may attend one, two, or all three sessions. Organizational leaders are encouraged to take part, helping to reinforce new skills and support a successful transfer of learning into practice.

Session Details

DAY 1 – October 7

Effective Decision-Making

Knowing how to move a discussion to a decision is critical. Motus9’s Effective Decision-Making session equips rising leaders with the skills and frameworks needed to make confident, strategic decisions in high stakes environments. This workshop empowers leaders to enhance their critical thinking, improve team buy-in, and drive impactful business outcomes. How do you overcome differing views? How do you know when it’s time to move to a decision?

Managing Laterally – Knowing How to Own Your Role

It can be challenging to learn how to manage your peers. Knowing how to manage peers in different departments and hold each other accountable is a critical part of leadership. The Managing Laterally workshop empowers rising leaders to navigate cross-functional relationships, influence without authority, and take full ownership of their roles. Participants will develop strategies to collaborate effectively across teams, communicate with confidence, and drive results by leveraging their unique expertise. Through practical exercises and real-world scenarios, this session helps leaders build credibility, foster alignment, and maximize their impact within the organization, where everyone is accountable for their contribution to the team.

Managing Down – Delegating and Balancing Authority

You have the authority and power in your business/department. Managing those you once worked with as peers and now are in a position of power can be challenging. We’ll help you learn how to balance and identify when leading, managing, guiding, and doing are most needed. Motus9’s Managing Down workshop helps rising leaders master the art of delegation, empowering their teams while maintaining accountability. Participants will learn how to effectively assign tasks, set clear expectations, and provide guidance without micromanaging. This workshop equips leaders with the skills to balance authority, build team trust, and drive performance while freeing themselves to focus on higher level strategic priorities. You’ll leave comfortably owning how to manage down; you’ll be able to easily identify what you own, what others own, and how to choose what to delegate.

DAY 2 – October 8

Branding – Aligning and Implementing Vision, Values, and Mission

Your company has worked hard to create values that the organization stands by. They are likely written on your walls and discussed at all staff meetings. How do you use these values to develop others? How do you use them to make decisions? How do you use them in daily conversations? Motus9’s Branding workshop helps rising leaders bridge the gap between organizational identity and daily operations. Participants will learn how to align team actions with company vision, values, and mission to create a cohesive and impactful brand. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, this session equips leaders with strategies to reinforce brand consistency, inspire teams, and drive meaningful engagement both internally and externally.

Addressing Elephants and Having Difficult Conversations

The Addressing Elephants workshop equips rising leaders with the skills to navigate tough conversations with confidence and clarity. Participants will learn techniques to address sensitive issues, foster open dialogue, and resolve conflicts while maintaining trust and professionalism. Through practical exercises and real-world scenarios, this session helps leaders turn difficult discussions into opportunities for growth, alignment, and stronger team dynamics. In this session, you’ll learn how to identify what you may be ignoring or avoiding. This will help you move through friction more quickly and achieve greater productivity.

Managing Through Change and Uncertain Times

Motus9’s Managing Through Change workshop empowers rising leaders to navigate uncertainty with resilience and confidence. Participants will learn strategies to lead teams through transitions, maintain morale, and adapt to evolving business landscapes. This session provides practical tools for effective communication, decision-making, and fostering a culture of agility and stability during times of change.

What if I attended last year, can I attend again?

Yes. In fact, we encourage it. Leadership development is not one-and-done. Returning participants often gain deeper insights, refine their approach, and apply the content at a more advanced level.

What are the Virtual Bridge Sessions?

These are 90-minute virtual follow-up sessions that help reinforce key lessons from the in-person training. They also allow for peer reflection and engagement, and provide an opportunity for organizational leaders to support participant growth.  Each attendee will have the opportunity to participate in one, two, or three Bridge Integration Sessions at their discretion.

Is this opportunity suitable for senior leadership or only new leaders?

While the Institute is valuable for new or emerging leaders, senior leaders will gain fresh perspectives, new tools, and clarity on how to better support and develop others on their teams.

How do I know if someone on my team is a good fit?

They are a good fit if they:

  • Are eager to grow but need structured support.
  • Have recently stepped into leadership roles.
  • Are high-potential contributors preparing for promotion.
  • Want to shift from managing tasks to leading people.
  • Could benefit from improved confidence, communication, or strategic thinking.
How many participants will be there?

In an effort to keep the group at a reasonable size to encourage meaningful participation from all attendees, there will only be a maximum of 50 participants.

Do I need to attend both the 2-day in-person sessions and the Virtual Bridge Sessions?

While the in-person sessions are the core of the experience for registrants, Virtual Bridge Sessions are voluntary.  We highly recommend attending at least one bridge session (attendees are eligible to attend all three!) to get the most value and effectiveness out of the Leadership Institute.

Virtual Bridge Sessions are included within the registration fee and are provided at no additional expense.

Is the curriculum the same as last year?

The core curriculum remains consistent, but it evolves based on participant needs, real-world challenges, and feedback from Year One. No two cohorts are the same, and the experience is shaped by who’s in the room.

Do executives/attendee supervisors need to attend the Virtual Bridge Sessions?

We highly encourage executives to attend the Virtual Bridge Sessions with the attendees to gain perspective on how to implement the learnings as well as supporting their leaders.  Transfer of learning is maximized if the executives/attendee supervisors participate in the Virtual Bridge Sessions.
