Attachment matters can be a wide-spread concern in the child welfare field. Knowing and being aware of one of the most serious attachment diagnoses (Reactive Attachment Disorder or RAD) is a “must know” for any professional working with children and youth who have experienced some type of trauma, abuse, or neglect – especially in the first 5 years of their life. We will explore attachment challenges and therapeutic interventions regardless of if they have an official RAD diagnosis. It is our job as professionals to be trauma-informed and help support those with early life challenges. Join us on a learning experience to explore the dynamics and factors related to human attachment and bonding. Learning Objectives:

  • Describe how healthy infant attachment occurs
  • Describe the effects of maltreatment on brain development, self-concept, and behavior
  • Define risk factors and symptoms of Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD)
  • Identify treatment options for a child with RAD/attachment challenges
  • Understand attachment parenting principles
